HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Political Science is one of the eight departments created in the College of Management and Social Sciences. As an integral part of the University’s academic organizational structure, the Department assumed responsibility for the development of subjects and courses for the programme. This was done within its purview and competence of its teaching staff.
The Department of Political Science is concerned with the training of future political scientists. At the end of the four years of training, graduates of this Department will be well armed to face the challenges from the outside world.
The first set of undergraduate students of about 15 was admitted in 2012/2013 academic session while the enrollment has risen to about 27 at the beginning of 2013/2014 academic session.
The programme started in the Department of Political Science in 2012/2013 academic session with adequate academic staff (Full and Part Time) and has had increased enrollment of students subsequently.
Vision: The vision of the university is to provide a well balanced university education without discrimination for the production of versatile graduates with capacity for entrepreneurship for the development of the nation.
Mission: The mission of the university is to create a learning environment for students as well as to cultivate and future the qualities of human beings with a view to contribution towards the economic, scientific and technological needs of humanity.
Philosophy and Objective: The philosophy and mission of Political Science discipline is to produce graduates with a critical mind, requisite ability and skill to analyses, comprehend, predict and influence the factors that shape and mold power relationships in an ever-changing sociology-political environment in a globalizing world.
